While it's technically not possible to figure out the identity of HPL's ultimate necromancer-killing undead badass from the Case of Charles Dexter Ward, presenter Jess Gulbranson has done just that. This presentation will look at some of the many guesses that the fandom has entertained itself with for over 90 years, and then sum up the available evidence for the best possible suspect, who is no mythological wizard, but a real legend from the history of science. Jess Gulbranson is an author, artist, critic, and composer. At his most recent appearance at The Hour That Stretches, he and coauthor Garrett Cook had an audience feed their mana to an egregore called "Tony Shrapnel". Current projects include children's books, a grimoire, and the unofficial Dark Souls manga. He lives in Portland with his wife and daughters.
