While experimenting with specialized photography, English country squire Sir Hugo Cunningham creates a machine capable of revealing an invisible creature that exists at the moment of death. His discovery may be the key to immortality, but how far will he go to secure his place in time? The Asphyx is a thrillingly morbid Victorian-period horror film that is more evocative of Lovecraft's stories than the conventional Gothic horror films of the day. Unwittingly combining elements of "From Beyond" with "The Thing on The Doorstep," and a little dose of Cosmic Horror, this film is a wonderful discourse on the hubris of science and questions humanity's place in the broad history of time.
