About the Festival

The H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival promotes the works of H.P. Lovecraft, literary horror, and weird tales through the cinematic adaptations by professional and amateur filmmakers. The festival was founded in 1995 by Andrew Migliore in the hope that H.P. Lovecraft would be rightly recognized as a master of gothic horror and his work more faithfully adapted to film and television.

Coming to the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, but don't have a place to stay? That's no problem, we've arranged for discounted rates at two area hotels. The Banfield Value Inn is a budget motel that is only blocks from the theatre and across the street from Tony Starlight's (where our after parties will be held). The Doubletree Hotel at Lloyd Center is a deluxe hotel and (while not walking distance) is only ten minutes away from the theatre by the city's MAX light rail line. Read more

Just a reminder that submissions are open for the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival - Portland (May 11-13), so get those short films, features, and screenplays in!

The festival is scheduled for May 11-13, 2012, and creators will be notified of acceptance by April 25, 2012. The sooner you get your creation submitted, the more time we'll have to consider it, so we encourage all filmmakers to submit no later than the beginning of April, but the sooner the better.

Visit our submissions page for more info.

Guest judge Guillermo del Toro announces the 2011 H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival® Brown Jenkin Short Film Awards (the 6" award was sculpted by Bryan Moore of Arkham Studios), the awards were presented by the festival founder Andrew Migliore and the HPLFF-LA festival director Aaron Vanek at the Grand Warner in San Pedro on September 17, 2011.

  • Runner up - Black Goat by Joseph Nanni
  • Co-Winner - Static Aeons by Gib Patterson
  • Co-Winner - Edgar Allan Poe's The Raven by Don Thiel III & Christopher Saphire

Chris and Don were there at the Warner Grand theater to accept their award, we sent the statue to Gib who was in New York at the time. Apparently Chris and Don said they were literally covering their mouths and waving their free hand to stay silent and listen to Guillermo's praise.

The festival founder also gave special consideration to "Shadow of the Unnamable" by Sascha Renninger for Best Short Lovecraft Adaptation.

Once again we thank all the filmmakers for their submissions this year. Read more
